This full-blooded Trinidadian is most widely known for his smash-chest thunder-voice performance poetry. His heart-sparked passionate wordplay crafts visual tapestries, ranging from God, to girlfriends, to “goodness gracious did he just say that?!” He has taken his humble heartbeat to numerous universities, hospitals, theaters, bars, coffee shops and the Q-train.
Rico is the first poet ever to represent all FOUR New York poetry venues at the National Poetry Slam.
As a Current committee member of both Urbana Poetry Slam and The louderARTS Project. His image has appeared in the New York Times, his poetry published in print & web-azines. “Heartbreaker” a stereoscopic short film in collaboration with Nice Shoes Creative Director Aaron Baxter was a 2011 Official Selection of the 8th Annual Big Apple Film Festival.
In 2007, Rico self published his first graphic novel, “SPY & Dicksey”©. Issue one and two are available online.
He loves gummy worms and pistachio ice cream and calls Jersey City home base. He scribbles poems on the backs of maps in hopes they will take him somewhere new.
